Meet Taran Ranu

Registered Psychotherapist (BSc, MACP, CRPO)

I'm Taran, a Registered Psychotherapist with 8+ years of experience supporting teens, adults, individuals, and couples through anxiety, relationship challenges, self-esteem struggles, trauma, and life transitions.

How I Got Here

I didn't set out to become a therapist by accident. I fought my way here. I started out studying forensic science, chasing a different kind of curiosity about people. But somewhere in those courses, I fell in love with psychology instead, the question of why people do what they do, and how to help them change it. That was the moment I knew what I wanted to do with my life.

Then I learned the path to becoming a therapist was going to be long and challenging given my circumstances at the time. It would have been easy to let that scare me off, but I believed in myself, even when it meant taking the harder road to get there. Still, I tried to accept alternatives, safer, more practical options. I took a job in marketing at a car dealership, with hopes of moving into HR since I had a psychology degree behind me. Instead, I was told to use that degree to study consumer behaviour for advertising purposes, to sell, not to help. No matter how many alternatives I tried, I kept finding my way back to the same pull: therapy was where I was supposed to be.

So I made a move nobody was rooting for: I left marketing behind and took a job as an intake coordinator at a therapy clinic. I answered phones, connecting people with therapists. It looked like a step backwards to everyone watching from the outside. To me, it was the closest I'd been to the thing I actually wanted, and it lit something back up. That's when I stopped listening to the doubt and pursued my Master's degree. I graduated with honours, and jumped right in.

A few years into practising, I truly grew into the therapist I am today. I didn't get here because the path was clear or because people believed in me early on. I got here because I refused to let anyone else's doubt become my ceiling.

What It's Like to Work With Me

In session, I aim to create a space where you feel genuinely safe to be honest, without walking on eggshells or performing a version of yourself. My approach is clinical and grounded in evidence-based methods, not trends or guesswork, because you deserve tools that actually work. But that doesn't mean it's cookie-cutter. I take the time to understand what makes you, you and I shape our work together around that.

Outside the Office

Outside of work, you'll usually find me either fully unwound or fully in motion, there's not much in between. I love a good relaxing vacation, and I'm just as happy on the tennis court or picking up any racket sport I can get my hands on. I also love hosting, good food, good people, and no particular agenda beyond enjoying each other's company.

After a full day of sessions, I recharge by stepping outside, a walk or run in nature. No talking required. Just movement, and a chance to be in my body instead of my head for a while.
