Why I Created Wellsession: A Therapy Practice Rooted in Connection, Culture, and Relationships

For me, therapy has always been about more than simply managing symptoms. I see therapy as understanding the person behind what they are experiencing, their relationships, upbringing, culture, and the experiences that have shaped who they are today.
My own experiences growing up between two cultures also shaped how I came to understand the importance of feeling seen and understood. These ideas are a big part of why I created Wellsession and the kind of space I hope to offer through therapy.
Therapy Is More Than Symptoms
When I entered the field of psychotherapy, I quickly realized that people rarely come to therapy because of one single problem. Anxiety, stress, relationship struggles, burnout, or feelings of being stuck are often connected to much deeper experiences, our upbringing, relationships, expectations placed on us, the ways we have learned to cope and most importantly our culture.
Helping people understand not only what they were experiencing, but why they were experiencing it. Therapy helps in learning strategies to feel better in the moment; but it is also about creating space to understand yourself, your patterns, and what you truly need moving forward
Helping People Feel Understood
One of the most meaningful parts of being a therapist is watching someone finally feel understood. Many people spend years minimizing their feelings, putting others first, or feeling like they need to have everything figured out.
Therapy can be a space where you don't have to have all the answers. You can slow down, talk openly about what you're experiencing, and begin to understand what you need without feeling judged.
Culture Shapes Mental Health
Our mental health does not exist separately from our culture, family, and life experiences. The way we were raised, the values we were taught, and the communities we come from all influence how we understand emotions, relationships, and ourselves.
Personally, this was where I struggled growing up living between two very different cultures and figuring out how to not just juggle both effortlessly but eventually finding my own space where I actually fit in.
Creating Space for South Asians
As someone who understands the importance of cultural identity and family connections, I recognize that many South Asian individuals navigate unique experiences that are not always talked about openly. This may look like balancing personal goals with family expectations, feeling pressure to succeed, learning how to set boundaries while maintaining close relationships, or carrying the responsibility of making others proud.
Sometimes this can feel challenging to the point where you feel alone, but you are not alone. Creating a space where these conversations can happen openly and without judgment is an important part of why Wellsession exists.
Ultimately, Wellsession is a reflection of what I believe therapy can be, a space where you can be understood as a whole person, where your culture and relationships are part of the conversation, and where you don't have to leave parts of yourself at the door. My hope is to create a space where these conversations can happen openly, honestly, and without judgment.
